No matter how good your backups are, a computer crash is maddening. The time it takes to install Windows, then install all of your software, then copy all of your data, is daunting to say the least.
I think I'm finally to the point that my main Windows machine is back to the state I want it. I almost wish that I could make the full transition to Linux, as it is so much more stable. Alas, I have so much software that I use on Windows that I can't yet get to run on Linux, and what's more, though I don't really like Windows, I do know Windows. I've been using it since Windows 3.1, and I know what to do when there is a problem, I know the file system probably better than the back of my hand, et cetera. I don't think I'll be doing the migration to Vista, though. I'm simply not prepared to give Microsoft that much money. I'll just continue - for now - running most of my machines on XP. However, I will still continue running one on Linux, and learning it bit by bit, so that eventually I can migrate toward open-source free software, which fits my budget and my personality much better.
Anyway, this blog really isn't meant to be a technical blog. However, it is intended to be at least partially about what is going on in my life. Believe me, if you don't know, a major computer crash can take over your life until it is resolved.
Have a great day, all!
