A Community Comes Together

Last night I attended a rally in Boulder, Colorado for a young Naropa University student who was attacked this past Wednesday morning in Downtown Boulder - because she identified herself as a lesbian to two young men who were hitting on her.

Boulder Police refuse to officially call this act a hate crime until the suspects are apprehended, but the community has little doubt that the young woman's sexual orientation played a part in her brutal assault.

Thankfully the victim is recovering - physically. I wonder if she will ever recover completely from being attacked just for being who she was. The Boulder community, especially the GLBTQ community has some recovery to do as well. In a way, when you attack one of us, you attack all of us. Living thirty miles from Boulder, I still felt the impact of this brutal assault and felt the need to make the drive to Boulder to be part of the community's response.

I took some pictures of the event, some of which actually did come out okay. I'm including them below, but I don't think I really need to comment on them. The number of people who turned out to this rally - organized in about a day - speaks for itself.

As always, feel free to contact me.
